One thing I forgot to mention in my post about maxi dresses is that it doesn't matter if you are short. I'm only 5'3 and I can rock every maxi dress around. They do not make me look short in any way. If you are under 5' you may need to take up the ends a little bit to avoid dragging dirt around with you but if you are shying away only because you think you are too short, think again :)

5/30/2011 1 Comment Oohh Summer time! With the summer season, comes the heat! Sometimes a little unbearable when the humidity adds 10 degrees to the temperature. BUT, I have a fashion idea for all you ladies looking for something that you can wear in this heat that will keep you cool (other than a bikini!).
Its a maxi dress. They were really big last summer and trust me, they haven't gone ANYWHERE. I work at Old Navy and we have several different styles and so many colours! There is one style we have that comes in a bright pink, black and a green flower pattern, its a jersey knit fabric and it is the most comfortable thing you will put on your body. I bought the green one and trust me, I'm not one for flowery patterns but this dress looks uber cute. I'll upload a pic of it tomorrow on me but for now I'll add our O.N. picture. Funny enough I had a customer the other day come into the fitting room with the dress and I was gushing about how much I loved it and her reply made me laugh so hard. She said "someone tweeted about it being a must have this summer so I came first chance I got" and this was NOT a twenty-something woman. I was impressed. Now I know some people don't understand how a MAXI dress can be comfortable in the blazing heat, but let me tell you (as a past hater) that the reason they are so comfy is that a) they are only tight around the bust, which we can all live with considering we wear bras (almost) everyday b) they just flow out from the bust down c) when you walk, you create your own breeze which cools down your legs Now ladies, I'm not suggesting you go lay in the sun with this outfit, but if its hot out and you are heading to the mall its best of both worlds, keeps you cool outside, and when you enter the ice cold building you dont freeze to death like you would in itty bitty shorts and a tube top! You can get these dresses anywhere (but of course I'm going to suggest coming to Old Navy if you like this dress I'm posting up! You can check out our other dresses at oldnavy.ca/com depending where you live! ;) 5/11/2011 0 Comments Heartbroken So today there was a sign from above telling me it was not meant for me to own a jumper or mc hammer pants. I am very disappointed. Me and two of my girls looked in what felt like EVERY store and although we found a couple that could have worked, they were either the wrong size, a somewhat strange pattern or too expensive.
We did go into several shoe stores to gawk at some heels that we wish we could afford at the moment. I joked saying that we need to have our career pay to splurge on shoes and high end stores. 5/11/2011 0 Comments What is Fashion?Fashion is Fashion is Fashion. It can be anything it wants to, it can be hit....or miss... and there are opinions, LOADS of opinions. You could love something and the rest of the world could hate it. Or (as I am guilty of) we can hate something for so long, claiming it to be the most hideous of ideas/thoughts/trends and then after seeing a few people rock it the proper way (yes there can be in improper way) you are thinking "how the heck did I hate that?" The two current trends that I was left saying "WTF" after first hearing about them were the MC Hammer pants and Jumpsuits. I thought for sure I was stuck in 70s/80s hell. But I have seen some very good looking outfits with both these trends (also the combination of a jumpsuit with the harem styled bottoms) and am now on a desperate hunt for both these items. Unfortunately, at the moment, every pair of harem pants I put on, look terrible or just not *quite* right. Same goes for the jumpers, they look fabulous hanging up and once I try them on they look terrible. This happens quite a lot to me which makes shopping a very frustrating event. But I will continue to look! I will be heading downtown Toronto tomorrow with some of my girls so they are going to help me on my desperate search. For the jumpsuit of my dreams it CANNOT be black. I want something that is bright (without being all flowery which seems to be the "it" pattern) but not necessarily a solid colour because that would require me to get a funky coloured pair of heels/shoes or possibly a blazer/jacket to contrast it (although I am lazy which you will inevitably find out about me; therefore I'd probably just settle for the jumper without the add ons). In keeping with the laziness thought, if I can get a bring coloured one I will follow another trend which I believe is much more do-able: chunky coloured jewellery. That will be my *POP* of colour. The MC Hammer/harem pants I want in a nice olive/army green because I so desperately want to match them with my amazing high heel Gladiators which I got from Nine West last summer. So that colour is pretty much non negotiable. What is negotiable about them is the fabric; this is another tricky aspect. I don't want a super stiff fabric and the really flow-y fabrics just don't seem to be cutting it. So a lot of misses in that department. So, hopefully I will have some luck tomorrow. I'll post some pictures of these looks that I like for your visual enjoyment!Toodles. |
